One hour by car from Heraklion and only 7 minutes from Rethymnon or 3 minutes from the sea, the traditional village of Prines is set on the lush green hill overhanging Rethymnon.

Prines used to be an important place during the Venetian occupation and the church of St. Nicolas dates from the 13th century.
